ERIT and Public Services Heads met on July 25 and agreed on a general direction for public computing for 2017/18. We do not plan to increase the number of PCs or laptops because we have added so many over the past 2 years and have not seen an increase in overall usage. Also, we will need the entire IT budget just to replace aging machines, and will thus not have money to expand the number of computing devices for the public.

Instead of adding extra machines, we will focus on moving some of our lesser-used use public machines to the tower floors as each floor is renovated via the Rightsizing project. Floors 2 and 3 will be considered "E-group study" (or something like that), and will focus on technology assisted collaborative spaces. Floors 4 and 5 will be general group study with relatively few library-provided PCs. We will figure out the details of the computer moves as the Rightsizing project moves forward.
