Last Thursday as part of our Staff Development and Recognition Week, Dr. Mike Perko, a UNCG Professor of Public Health, stopped by Jackson Library to give a talk on the importance of brain health. His presentation, titled "It’s All in Your Head: Brain Health and Wellness” was very informative and engaging.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

Fire Extenguisher Training Pictures

On Tuesday, the Greensboro Fire Department was on site to give the library staff information about the proper way to use a fire extinguisher. Afterwards, staff were given a chance to practice putting out a real fire using one.

Here is a link to some pictures from that day.

Shred-A-Thon 2017 - June 23, 8am-1pm

Friday June 23 at 8am-1pm the opportunity to shred paper documents with sensitive/confidential information for free will be in front of Foust Building on Administration Drive (see attached map). The mobile shredding truck that will be stationed there is designed to process large amounts of paper on site, users can even choose to watch the secure destruction on a closed circuit TV on the truck.  Confidential materials from your office or home are welcome, this event is limited to UNCG Faculty, Staff, Students and Alumni.  Help will be available to unload your car.  Staples, envelope windows and small paper clips are fine to be included with the material but no binders will be accepted.  Please be sure all paper is out of any binders before bringing your material.  Use proper lifting technique and team work to move paper to the event, paper is deceptively heavy.
This is a one day event so please prepare your material early, the next opportunity will be June 2018.  Last year about 16,920 lbs. of material was shredded and recycled, which is roughly equivalent to 143 trees worth of paper.

For any questions or assistance with getting records to the event please contact Ben Kunka
bakunka@uncg.edu

Records that have permanent or historical value, based on the approved records schedule, are to be transferred to University Archives.  Instructions for transferring records to University Archives are available at
http://uncg.libguides.com/university_archives/transferring_to_archives.  If you have questions about transferring records to University Archives or the historic value of your records (both paper and digital) contact Erin Lawrimore at erlawrim@uncg.edu.

UNCG is required to comply with the North Carolina Public Records Law concerning the retention and disposition of records. Records are to be disposed of according to University and State approved schedules. The UNC General Records Retention and Disposition Schedule is available at

Plans for the 6th floor stacks or more commonly known as T6

To provide an update on our tower project, the furniture drawings for the 6th floor have been posted under the General Information page for you to see.  This was the final drawing from several meetings with the vendor by a small group of folks who help determine the overall need and best scenario for this quiet floor.  The same group evaluated colors and finishings.

From here, the order has been placed, the final shelving was removed today and work orders will be placed for painting and electrical modification.  This install is expected to be completed by early June.  This will add additional seating, which was the goal of the entire project.  Once this is completed in this fiscal year, the focus will be on T5 next.

Thanks to everyone helping make the space available and providing opinions and insights into the furniture order.
