Please remember to shutdown and turn off all computers, monitors, printers, and copiers in your area before you leave for the winter break.  Be sure to unplug the power strips for these devices after you turn the devices off.  Many of these devices are configured to automatically turn themselves back on and will power back up if they are not unplug.

Also, if there are people in your department who have already left for the break, please take a moment to check their work areas to be sure that all of their devices have been properly turned off and unplugged.

For the past year, the Libraries have been collaborating with the College of Visual and Performing Arts to bring world-renowned cellist Lynn Harrell to UNCG as part of the War and Peace series. SCUA's exhibit of our Lev Aronson materials was also part of this effort; Mr. Harrell was a student of Mr. Aronson's.  Mr. Harrell visited the exhibit last Thursday and was delighted and touched to see these materials.  On Saturday evening we hosted a reception for our Jackson Society donors in the Hodges Reading Room.  We then attended a performance by Lynn Harrell in the Recital Hall in the School of Music (see photo).   At the recital Mr. Harrell declared that the UNCG University Libraries have "the best cello collection in the world!"

A culmination of the week is that Lynn Harrell has verbally agreed to donate his papers to our Cello Collection.  This is a major coup and will be a priceless gift when completed.
