Requesting Items for Display on News/Events, Spotlight, and Digital Signs

The relatively new Digital Visual Communications Team (DVCT) is charged with coordinating the messaging that is displayed on the Digital Signs and within the Spotlight and News/Events sections of the Libraries homepage. 

The Spotlight section of the website homepage is intended to display resources and services that the Libraries want to highlight, whether they are new or not. Some examples are 24/5 service, printing/scanning/copying, quiet rooms, and electronic resources. 

The News/Events section is intended to display one-time announcements and library-related events. Some examples are exhibits, book discussions, FOL activities, and surveys.

The Digital Signs can be used for both purposes, but will geared toward a more general audience. All necessary information should be included on the image as the signs are generally not appropriate if the viewer needs to go somewhere else for more information. Some examples are Libraries & FOL events, current exhibits, general Libraries information, highlighted services, and interesting Libraries and UNCG images. We currently have 3 Digital Signs - they are located in the Jackson Library main lobby, the DMC ottoman empire, and the Schiffman Music Library. Each sign will display both general and localized content.

Because these communication mechanisms are visual displays, all submission should include an appropriately related image. If you don't have an image, the team will work with you to create one. Postings to Spotlight and News/Events also require a URL to link to the resource or news/event information.

The DVCT reviews all submissions for appropriateness and to determine the best mechanisms for distribution, always in consultation with the submitter. Please give the DVCT at least one week to create and post each submission.

Upcoming Staff Development Events

Just a reminder that we have two Staff Development Events this week:

UNCG Accommodations Policy Q & A
October 14th 1-2pm, Hodges Reading Room

Bruce Pomeroy from OARS will be giving a presentation on the new UNCG Accommodations Policy and be available to answer any questions you might have about it. Barry Miller will also be providing information from the library's perspective on how they are addressing changes to the policy.

EXCEL Training Workshop
October 15th, 10-11am, Jackson 117A (Super Lab computer lab)

Judy Guard from ITS will be providing a training workshop on EXCEL where you will learn the basics of using Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets. You will learn how to create a workbook, create spreadsheets and link them, and perform basic math functions. You will also learn how to use graphs, and how to format your spreadsheets. This workshop does not require any previous knowledge of Excel or spreadsheets.
