Reminder-Annual Benefits Enrollment Must Be Completed by October 31

Just a reminder, annual benefit enrollment must be completed by October 31.  If you are satisfied with the plan in which you are enrolled, you may remain in that plan and do not need to re-enroll. HOWEVER, if you are currently enrolled in the Enhanced 80/20 Plan or CDHP and wish to maintain or lower your employee-only premium, you must complete (or redo) your wellness premium credits by Oct. 31, 2014.

If you take no action during Open Enrollment, all benefit plans under NCFlex will remain the same, with 1 exception - your flexible spending account(s) will end.  If you wish to have a health care flexible spending or dependent say care spending account you must re-enroll.

Please review your beneficiary designations to ensure your designations are the way you want them.  If you have had a life event (marriage, divorce, acquired a new dependent, etc.) please review your beneficiary designations and make any necessary changes.

Vision for the Lower Level

Please see the vision crafted by Mary Krautter, Armondo Collins and Jennifer Whitaker (Writing Center Director).

As a collective, the University Libraries and the Multiliteracy Centers will collaborate to develop resources and enhance learning for university students, faculty, staff and community members. Rather than separate co-inhabitants of a space, the members of the collective will form a group which aims to develop initiatives that support connections and active engagement across campus.
Specific areas of possible collaboration will include:
1.       Creating resources for students on citations, including developing online resources and handouts
2.       Co-teaching workshops and sessions for classes, for example, including both technical and design aspects of digital design in a single session taught by DMC and DACTS
3.       Exploring possibilities for creating faculty development workshops on topics such as creating assignments using research and writing
4.       Exploring possibilities for developing workshops for non-UNCG groups
5.       Improving and expanding the current Research Assignment Calculator used by librarians
6.       Sharing a chat service account giving us the ability to transfer chats back and forth between our groups
7.       Creating easier referral for assignments that have multiple aspects and making such referrals more convenient for students, i.e. referral from librarian liaisons for students who need  help on a speech or a writing assignment
8.       Sharing expertise on areas such as copyright and academic integrity

Call for proposals: AcadeMAKE

Deadline to submit proposal: November 21, 2014

Deadline to register: February 6,  2015

Conference Date: February 20, 2015, Greensboro, NC - UNCG campus

AcadeMAKE is a one-day FREE conference on "making" focusing on making and makerspaces within an academic campus environment. - This conference hopes to bridge the gap between play and application. Sessions will include idea sharing, academic research, use cases, experiences and creations.

The first conference of AcadeMAKE is a collaborative effort - a team consisting of School of Education (SOE) staff and UNCG Libraries staff - and supported by a State of North Carolina LSTA grant. The first 50 people who sign up will get a FREE parking pass!

We encourage people from any field to submit proposals on any topic related to academic making, especially those in libraries but not limited to that area. Academic, public, school, and special librarians, teachers in K-12, academic faculty, and local makers are all encouraged to submit proposals. We also hope to have an experimental "play room" area for some hands-on fun in the new SOE makerspace.

Presentation options: 45-minute panels or research talks, 5-10-minute lightning rounds, poster session/show n' tell session.

Sign up to to attend and submit a proposal (same form!)
